Midway - Message from the Gyre by Chris Jordan

Midway - Message from the Gyre by Chris Jordan

Chris Jordan has assembled a moving collection of photos that illustrate the impact pollution has had on our ocean in ways that words cannot. On  Chris’s site chrisjordan.com the collection of images where described as follows:

These photographs of albatross chicks were made just a few weeks ago on Midway Atoll, a tiny stretch of sand and coral near the middle of the North Pacific. The nesting babies are fed bellies-full of plastic by their parents, who soar out over the vast polluted ocean collecting what looks to them like food to bring back to their young…

Visit chrisjordan.com for his full account of gathering these images.

The Forkless Wonder (Bicycle)

October 9th, 2009 andrew No comments

It’s been a while since the bicycle has been re-invented by any stretch of the imagination. Designed by Olli Erkkila, this bizarre looking bicycle forgoes the front fork for a much different approach. The “Forkless-Cruiser” was made as Erkkila’s graduation project at the Institute of Design in Lahti, Finland.

Edward Barbier - 3-Marsh Relief

Edward Barbier - 3-Marsh Relief

While in Savannah, GA this past week I was literally stopped in my tracks by the work of Edward Barbier. With his unique and unmistakable approach to sculpture Barbier is broadened his work from arthropods to the low country landscape that surround his home in the coastal region of Georgia.

Sendak & Jonez on Collaboration

October 3rd, 2009 andrew No comments

It resonates through this video that there is a tremendous amount of mutual respect between Author/Illustrator Maurice Sendak & Director Spike Jonez. Although they are generations apart they seem to be on the same creative page, driven by their own vision as it applies to their medium of choice.

Smaller portions are not in the big picture

October 2nd, 2009 andrew No comments

Innovation in the beverage industry has stagnated for the past decade or so, with little to no change in the delivery of product. The above video shows how Coke is looking to push the envelope with all sorts of new technology… and clearly no plans to stop serving its product by the gallon if possible.
