A New Look for "Aol."

A New Look for "Aol."

“Aol.” has contracted brand/logo wizard Wolf Olins to create a new brand and identity for the fading online behemoth. In Aol’s press release the change is described as follows:

Our new identity is uniquely dynamic. Our business is focused on creating world-class experiences for consumers and AOL is centered on creative and talented people – employees, partners, and advertisers. We have a clear strategy that we are passionate about and we plan on standing behind the AOL brand as we take the company into the next decade,”

- Tim Armstrong, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of AOL.

David Ellis – Truck

November 23rd, 2009 andrew No comments

Recently my good friend Matt Hebermehl inadvertently turned me on to the work of David Ellis. Ellis’ work is described as follows on his website:

Ellis’ paintings are frequently improvised. He works directly on the walls of spaces that remain open to the public during installation and shares the making of the work with viewers. The experience is much like a band playing in front of a passing audience.

Augmented Reality meets retail

November 16th, 2009 andrew No comments

I have seen this technology floating around for misc. web applications and it looks like someone has finally figured out a good format for the technology. With a relatively short engagement, retail looks like the perfect application of this augmented reality web cam + 3d technology.

I am admittedly a complete sucker for details and architectural façades are no exception. Primarily used in 2D applications, designers are now pushing the boundaries to create rich 3 dimensional textures using a variety of materials. The image above shows a recent work created by x Architekten for Salon Mittermeier a hair salon located in Austria.

grooveshark.com

Every once in a blue moon I REALLY dig a web service. Grooveshark has quietly slipped in and replaced Pandora as my online music service of choice. Grooveshark does everything Pandora doesn’t. It allows you to listen to *almost any song, artist or album at any time. You can fast-forward, rewind and all the other things you can do with a desktop music client like iTunes or Windows Media Player. AND to keep things legit, the service provides links to let you download the music you discover on iTunes or Amazon.

Joshua Allen Harris

November 9th, 2009 andrew No comments

It’s been a while since this new form of street art by Joshua Allen Harris made it’s debut on the streets of New York City. But the allure hasn’t faded. Harris continues to produce extremely interesting work that shows up serendipitously around the city that never sleeps. I am still hoping for a King Kong tribute that harnesses one of the massive AC/Ventilation units atop so many of New Yorks skyscrapers.
